Resistance Dies Tonight
Hannah approached the open casket. The body inside was hers.
“What is this?” she shivered.
“That is the part of you you’re leaving behind,” Melinda cooed.
“But..”
“No buts. Don’t you want to be my hypno-slave?”
“Of course I do!”
“Then resistance dies tonight. Sleep!”
Hannah collapsed on the floor, her thoughts ready for the taking.
How this story came to be
I’ve been thinking about death a lot. Not because I want to, but because I can’t help myself. The pain of losing my beautiful dog is still here. I still think about my first dog and he’s been gone for over nine years ago, so how can I not still be affected by something that happened last week?
Despite thinking about death a lot, my thoughts today weren’t as bleak and this piece focuses on a figurative demise, anyway. Sometimes, a part of us must go for a change to take place, and that’s exactly what happens here.
I can deal with bad thoughts even though I’d rather not have them. Dreams are worse because I’m stuck in them until I wake up. I wish I didn’t dream as much as I do.
