Pumpkins

“Alexandra?”
“Yes, General?”
“Did you redecorate my office for Halloween?”
“Of course.”
“It’s still early for that.”
“Not for the trick I have in mind…”
“Never a good sign. What do I do with all these pumpkins?”
“Try not to eat them.”
“Easy!”
“Is it?”
She left the office, smirking. Suddenly, he started feeling hungry.

I did say yesterday that with October coming, there would be a lot of Halloween-themed content appearing on the site. There will be spooky stuff but also lighthearted fun and Alexandra usually does something around this time of the year so I decided to have her take the lead on October 1st with some food triggers. How long do you think the General is going to resist eating the new decoration, huh?

When Did it Happen?

“Darlene, did you hypnotize me recently?” Carol asked.
“Define ‘recently’, dear.”
“Yesterday?”
“No.”
“Two days ago?”
“No.”
“Three days ago?”
“No.”
“Please, I need to know!”
“I don’t know what to tell you.”
“When did it happen?”
“What did?”
“The hypnosis! Is it happening right now?”
“You tell me.”
“I…”
Confused, Carol’s mind went blank.

I’m tired and my thoughts are a bit jumbled so I guess it makes sense I write something about confusion for today’s challenge piece, right? Hardly a favorite subject but it doesn’t really matter for the show must go on. Methinks Carol’s is about to start.

Forget

Notifications

The notification on David’s phone read,
“DarkSmile is watching you.”
A pale woman waved at him.
“Endless is watching you,” the phone warned again.
Another woman joined the first.
“Hypnotic_eyes is watching you,” the final message read.
David looked to the left and saw nothing but endless green.
The hungry vampires gathered for the feast.

Supernatural impromptu partially inspired by the notifications system at DeviantArt that happened to trigger as I was thinking about what to add to the daily challenge today. I knew it was going to be something with a spooky vibe to add to the Halloween themes of the month but didn’t really have anything planned as most of these come in the spur of the moment, anyway. Then, a message came through and I started thinking what if it was for real and not something on a screen? I imagined a man being watched in real-time by a group of hunters and shaped that thought into this creepy vignette. Turn your notifications off, folks, or else…

Mental Blast

The countdown was almost done. Mark closed his eyes and waited for the inevitable.
“5, 4, 3, 2…”
Nothing. No blast. No pain. He opened his eyes again and saw the numbers going up.
“Huh? What kind of explosive is this?” he muttered.
“One that only exists in your mind…” Camilla laughed, deepening his trance.

After yesterday’s detour into supernatural territory, I decided to go back to something more ‘normal’ so to speak but the first thing that came to mind was a bomb going off for some reason. Well, often things aren’t what they seem around here so time for imagination and trance to come together. Whether you’re going down or up, the only explosions happen in your mind.
