This Is New
The woman towering over Kurt and Joe had gorgeous, hypnotic eyes.
“Well, This is new,” Kurt said, his thoughts slipping away.
“What’s happening?” Joe asked.
“I think we’re about to become mindless slaves.”
“Heh, it could be worse.”
“How?”
“There could be gay henchmen involved.”
“Fuck!” Kurt exclaimed when six blank-eyed men entered the room.
How this story came to be
I didn’t get a lot of Christmas presents last month, but one of them was Clive Cussler’s Dark Vector, volume 19 in The NUMA Files series. I’ve read a lot of books in this series over the years and while this wasn’t actually penned by Clive Cussler, seeing he died in 2020, Graham Brown, one of his frequent collaborators, is now carrying the torch and doing a good job with it. I only finished the book today but had fun with it while it lasted. If you’ve never read any of the titles and like thrilling adventures that are easy to follow, try one for size.
After finishing it, I imagined what would happen if Kurt Austin and Joe Zavala came face to face with a hypnotic woman and then I wrote this. The original draft was longer and broke the fourth wall by mentioning the writer of these micro-tales but I couldn’t trim it down to 55 words, so I came up with an simpler alternative. Would you read such an adventure if it were written for real?
