Spell… H-A-L-L-O-W-E-E-N 2026 – Day 6

Spell… H-A-L-L-O-W-E-E-N is back! Let’s enjoy another month of supernatural fun.

Beware of cursed objects… This is a pure horror piece of micro-fiction.

We Were Never Two

They bought the mirror at the estate sale because it was beautiful – gilt frame, glass so dark it seemed to drink the light all around it. Mark hung it in their bedroom while Claire watched, arms crossed.

“It’s just a mirror,” he said.

That night, Claire woke to find Mark standing naked before it, motionless. In the glass, his reflection smiled with her mouth.

She sat up. “Mark?”

He didn’t turn. The reflection did. Her face was on his body, eyes black and wet. It mouthed something. Claire’s lips moved in perfect sync, though she hadn’t spoken.

He’s already gone.

Mark’s real body swayed. The reflection stepped forward until its palms pressed the inside of the glass. His Fingers sank through it like warm wax. Claire scrambled back as a hand emerged, dripping something thick and dark onto the carpeted floor.

It touched Mark’s shoulder. He didn’t flinch. The hand slid up his neck, under his jaw, and pulled. Skin peeled away in a single wet sheet. Underneath was nothing but the same black glass, reflecting Claire’s screaming face from a dozen angles at once.
The thing wearing her skin climbed fully out. It wore Mark’s emptied body like a coat, arms flopping. Claire tried to run, but the mirror’s surface stretched and became a giant mouth. It swallowed the bedroom wall, then the floor beneath her feet.

She fell into her own reflection. It was endless, every version of herself older and hollower than the last, until the final one simply watched with Mark’s dead eyes and whispered, very gently:

“We were never two.”

The couple’s bodies were never found, and neither was the mirror – Only their wedding rings, fused inside the now empty frame, still warm.
