Spell… H-A-L-L-O-W-E-E-N 2026 – Day 28

Spell… H-A-L-L-O-W-E-E-N is back! Let’s enjoy another month of supernatural fun.
Office parties can be quite annoying, but not this one. Have fun.
Hello, My Name Is…
Élodie hated the office Halloween party, so she came as nothing: jeans, a sweater, no costume at all.
“Oh, that won’t do,” said Madame Fontaine from HR, appearing at her elbow with a sheet of name tags. Her smile was kind. Everyone liked Madame Fontaine, and yet no one remembered ever hiring her.
“I’m fine,” Élodie said.
“Of course you are.” Madame Fontaine peeled off a sticker and pressed it to Élodie’s sweater. HELLO, MY NAME IS, and below it, in neat marker: Pleasant.
It was a silly joke. Élodie laughed, and the laugh came out lovely and soft, like someone else’s.
She looked around the break room. Luc from accounting wore a tag reading Obedient and was refilling cups nobody had asked him to. Two engineers wore Quiet and stood by the wall, holding the same untouched cookie. The CEO, tagged Grateful, was thanking the photocopier.
Nobody had costumes. Nobody needed them.
Élodie reached up to peel hers off. Her fingers wouldn’t. They smoothed the corners instead.
“Don’t fret,” said Madame Fontaine, capping her marker. “Tags are only for tonight. By Monday, no one will need them.”
Élodie wanted to ask what that meant, but what came out was a simple: “Thank you, Madame Fontaine.”
Somewhere far back in her head, a smaller Élodie noticed that the tag had begun to feel like a second skin. Then the thought was gone, and she went to help Luc with the cups.
