Spell… H-A-L-L-O-W-E-E-N 2026 – Day 20

Spell… H-A-L-L-O-W-E-E-N is back! Let’s enjoy another month of supernatural fun.

Trick-or-treating is not just for kids. Adults can have fun, too… but so can witches.

Full-Size

Every Halloween, the adults on Alder Lane held a “grown-ups’ crawl,” and every year the house at the end gave out full-size candy bars. This year Marcus let his roommate Julia drag him along, her costume a bumblebee, his a tired scarecrow.

Mrs. Alder met them at the door with a silver bowl. Her smile was warm. “Two for the bee,” she said, “and one for her reluctant escort.”

The wrapper was black, printed with a faint white spiral. Marcus looked at it a second too long. Under the porch light, the spiral seemed to turn.

“I’m good,” he said.

“Of course you are,” said Mrs. Alder softly, and he realized he’d taken the bar anyway.

Julia was already walking down the steps. Marcus followed and noticed things. The Hendersons stood rigid on their lawn in matching costumes, smiling at nothing. Mr. Park’s jack-o’-lantern was carved into a perfect spiral. Up and down the street, the porch lights dimmed and brightened in the same slow rhythm.

“Julia, don’t eat that.”

She already had. She turned, wings drooping, eyes soft and wide. “Marcus,” she said, in a voice that wasn’t hers, calm and warm. “Mrs. Alder says it’s time to come back.”

His feet turned before he told them to. The wrapper crackled in his fist. He hadn’t opened it. He didn’t remember deciding to.

Now he did.

Behind them, the porch light swept round and round. Marcus peeled back the black foil, and for the first time all night, he stopped being afraid.
