She Sits Quietly…

She sits quietly on a little stone bench by the sea, a half-open book resting on her lap, and the summer afternoon sun kissing her honey-golden hair. No one knows what’s on her mind, not even her, for the world is filled with small distractions, all of them competing for a sliver of her attention. A gentle breeze plays with her flowered dress and massages her curly toes. If this isn’t Heaven, then no one knows what it is.

She sits quietly on a little stone bench by the sea, one hand brushing her forehead while the other fiddles with something you can’t quite grasp what it is. The hint of a string is visible on her delicate fingers but what is attached to it remains a mystery. “Perhaps it’s her dreams,” you muse, observing the scene from a distance. She’s been on your radar from the moment she arrived and it’s unlikely that will change soon.

She sits quietly on a little stone bench by the sea, her legs crossed. It doesn’t seem like she’s wearing any underwear, but you don’t know for sure. Every time she adjusts her position, your eyes follow the fabric’s contours, hoping to go past them. Your moment will come, that much you know, but when? Unlike hers, your patience doesn’t last forever.

She sits quietly on a little stone bench by the sea, sandals dangling with the breeze. She has yet to notice you looking at her, or so you think. The string around her fingers glistens as she reels it in and then you finally see it, the rainbow diamond-shaped crystal at the end, swinging left and right. It is almost as beautiful as her eyes that shine with the color of a thousand oceans. The moment the first reflection hits you is when everything changes.

She sits quietly on a little stone bench by the sea, waving her favorite hypnotic charm. Every day she follows the same routine to draw in someone new, feigning innocence and aloofness until the moment is right to strike. Countless predators have fallen for her tricks already and although you’re not one of them, the magic works on you as well.

“How badly do you like what you see?” she asks without even looking your way. She knows you’re listening, and that’s enough. You take a step forward to answer the call and your words are as honest as unexpected,

“More than I thought possible,” you say.

“And yet far less than what you’ll feel if you keep looking and following my lead. Will you sit with me?”

“May I?”

“I wouldn’t be offering otherwise. Come. It’s a beautiful day, isn’t it?”

“I think it got a lot better just now.”

She sits quietly on a little stone bench by the sea, with you by her side. The pendant swirls before your drooping eyes as the sound of the rolling waves gently lulls you into mesmeric slumber. It is the first time, but not the last. Tomorrow, you’ll return to meet her again and welcome the growing pleasure of hypnotic submission deep within your soul. Surrender and obey.
