Later that day…
Quentin stood outside the apartment, his mind in utter turmoil, whispering, “Stay strong, you can do this.”Could he really? He had to believe so otherwise his plan was already as good as dead but he remained apprehensive and a little scared. A lot of things could go wrong once he was in the thick of things and he wasn’t sure he could handle them all.
The conversation with Tessa had gone exactly as expected. She had been rude, abusive, and a far cry from the woman he loved more than anything. The more she talked the more he imagined an alien creature wearing her body or a hyper-realistic robot whose programming was glitching out of control. The thing that hurt him the most was when she said,
“What do you want, worm? Didn’t I tell you to fuck off?”
“Yes, you did, but I wanted to apologize. I… I know I messed up. I need to make it up to you so if you’ll let me…”
“Let you do what exactly? Saying you’re sorry and that you’ll never do it again is not good enough. You need to prove to me you accept your place. I won’t have anything else than that.”
