“Yes! It’s on sale!” Nathan said.
“What’s on sale?” Jim asked.
“A session with Hypnodomme Ruby. It’s only ten thousand dollars this weekend!”
“You call that a sale?”
“Yes. It’s usually five thousand!”
“What? Are you even listening to yourself?”
No, he wasn’t, his eyes glazed, staring at the leather-clad woman on his phone’s screen.
How this story came to be
I suppose I should have written a Thanksgiving piece but all the ideas that came to me were mere variations of pieces I’ve written before, so I’ve decided to go for something else. While we don’t celebrate Thanksgiving around here, Black Friday is pretty much a part of our store culture now and, frankly, I’m a bit tired of it. Over the last week, I’ve been constantly bombarded by deals I’m not interested in, and enough is enough. On rare occasions, I’ve purchased useful things at discounted prices in the past, but most of the deals are sketchy and price gouging is also a thing during these hectic days, so… you’re not getting anything this year, sorry.
Anyway, I do need to buy a new washing machine (I’ve had a technician look into it, and repairing it will be almost as costly as getting a new appliance) but not right now. I’m going to wait for this consumeristic madness to slow down so I can analyze good deals properly without colorful banners, countdowns, and people shouting in my ears. Until then, I guess I’ll have to pay a visit to the dry cleaner more often.
This was written for laughs. When you’re entranced and/or obsessed, shitty deals feel like Heaven. I think Nathan is beyond salvation, to be honest.
