Obvious Choice
Horace wasn’t hungry but Jacqueline didn’t care.
“Eat!” she commanded.
“No,” he mumbled.
“Eat or Melissa gets the pendant.”
Horace scratched his chin. A lousy meal or seeing his girlfriend being hypnotized and humiliated for everyone else to see? The choice was obvious.
He set the food aside and waited for the show to begin.
How this story came to be
The concept for this one came to me as I was getting dinner ready a few hours ago. I imagined a man sitting at a table looking at a dish he had no intention of eating and an evil hypnotist telling him what would happen if he didn’t indulge in her culinary extravaganzas. At the time, I didn’t really have the threat itself in mind, just the idea of it. I mulled some more on it as I was walking my dog and then it finally clicked. Did you see the punchline coming or not?
