Excerpts

An Escape

(…)

Clive Richardson loved life but absolutely hated his job. He was a supermarket cashier, tasked with ringing up the same items day after day–stale bread, wilting lettuce, and boxes of overprocessed crackers. He felt like a machine, tirelessly churning out the same tedious motions for hours on end, nothing more than a cog in a much larger corporate structure that cared not about the human elements connected to it. He would often look up from his register, staring out the window with a distant longing. He yearned for something more, something beyond the monotony of his long shifts. Every day that went by, he felt like he was losing a small piece of his soul and he feared the day when it would all be gone for good.

As a safeguard, he always kept his smartphone on the back of his pants and would sneak glances at it throughout the day, the seconds ticking away like the hours at his job. He couldn’t wait for the day to be over, so he could go home and escape into the wonderfully hypnotic embrace of his goddess. Mistress Gina was his own personal muse, a deity with a captivating voice, that could easily transport him away from the banality of his work routines, and into a world of perfect serenity and bliss.

As One

Eric and Rita lay in bed, smiling. The moment they had been waiting for so long was finally here.

She looked into his eyes and her heart fluttered as he gazed back at her with burning passion. His hands moved slowly downwards towards her hips, and as they locked eyes, a current of electricity seemed to pass between them.

She pulled him closer, feeling his warmth as his body pressed against hers. His long fingers moved up and down her back, tracing her curves in a way that felt almost mesmerizing. The pleasure she felt was overwhelming, and it took all of her effort to stay in control.

As they moved together, she whispered,

“God, I love you so much!”

“Not as much as I love you,” he muttered in reply, but it wasn’t really a competition. From the moment they met, they knew they were soulmates, and that was the best feeling in the world.

Darkness Comes

I awoke with a startling scream as if my body was being ripped apart, a cold sweat dripping down my furrowed brow. The room around me was silent, but I could still feel a presence in the air. I had been dreaming of Phoebe again, of the moment I heard of her death in a robbery gone wrong months ago. The memory of that day hit me like a ton of bricks, and I felt a lump in my throat.

I shivered and pulled the covers up to my chin, my eyes scanning the dark room for the source of the feeling that had awoken me. The voice that had spoken my name seemed to be coming from nowhere and everywhere at once, echoing in the walls and seeming to fill my entire being with dread.

“Phoebe,” I whispered, my voice trembling.

Like Me

She smiled, her eyes narrowing ever so slightly. “Thank you, Doctor. Unfortunately, I can’t say the same thing about you.”

“What?” he muttered in disbelief. “What do you mean?”

She stepped closer to him, her movements fluid and graceful. “I mean, Doctor, that you are not as perfect as I am.”

Dr. Vaughn felt a chill run down his spine. He had programmed her to be polite and obedient, and yet she seemed to be questioning his abilities as a creator. He took a step back, suddenly feeling uneasy.

“I don’t understand,” he said, trying to keep his voice steady.
