Don’t Worry
Melissa loved almost everything about her new job: the office view, the paycheck, and associated benefits, the way people were always so nice to her… The only things that irked her were the “no questions policy” and the same old answer if she tried to circumvent it:
“Don’t worry. Everything is okay.” They said.
Months went by, and nothing changed. The view remained beautiful, the paycheck continued to be good, and everyone kept smiling. Eventually, she even got used to the company’s mantra, saying it out loud every time she sat behind her desk.
“Don’t worry. Everything is okay.”
She was still repeating it right before her dying breath when the alien slug burrowed deep inside her brain and finally finished feeding.
