Thomas laid down John’s latest manuscript and said,
“Please don’t be offended. What you wrote is not bad, just a little… generic.”
“Generic?” the young writer said, befuddled. “How many stories have you read that feature interdimensional mind-controlling vampiresses taking London by storm?”
“Well…” the publisher said, “Counting yours, about one hundred this month alone.”
“You’re fucking with me!”
“I’m afraid not. If you don’t mind me asking, where did you get the idea for it?”
“My hypnotic muse suggested it to me.”
“I see… one Miss Danvers, perhaps?”
“How do you know that?”
Thomas pointed at a large stack of nearly identical submissions and replied,
“You might want to find another muse.”
