A Special Birthday
Amanda blew out the candles. Grace had promised her a special birthday and she had delivered.
“Is this real?” she pointed at the men staring vacantly at her. Once her co-workers, they had become something else.
“Yes,” Grace replied. “Stop feeling like a drone. Now, you’re the hive queen.”
“Happy birthday to me!” Amanda smirked.
How this story came to be
Sometimes, it’s easy to feel like a drone at work, especially if you have a set of never-ending routines and chores to go along with, and any deviation from the norm results in unwanted complications. I’m not saying that was my case today (it wasn’t!), but we’ve all had days like that, right?
Anyhow, it was a co-worker’s birthday today and she brought cake. It was chocolate cake, and quite tasty while we are at it. We sang, we made a toast, and then everyone got back to their affairs.
The idea for this one popped into my head just about as I was returning to my desk. Why the association turned out like this, I don’t know. And yes, the implication is that Grace was the one responsible to turn the men into drones for her friend to enjoy. I’m sure she will.
