A Comment/Review on Daffy’s “Open Invitation”

Yes, you’re getting another comment/review today. After recently having talked about Brought to Book, I read another one of Daffy’s stories, today. Open Invitation is its title and the synopsis lies below:

One of the guests at Jared’s farewell party takes a special interest in his put-upon flatmate Andrew.

This was quite fun. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect this time around as the synopsis is somewhat vague so I was pleasantly surprised to discover another tale with supernatural overtones as Helen, the female main character who takes an interest in Andrew is a vampire. Yes, and she says so herself. In fact, she has to be one of the most civilized bloodsuckers I’ve seen in erotic mind control stories, always charming but always in control, not one for mincing words but saying things as they are. She’s also quick-witted and horny, and that’s quite a good combo.

Much like Brought to Book, this was well-written, and we do get a strong sense of the main players. Helen is, of course, the strongest character, especially the way she presents herself defying ages of stereotypes regarding vampires. The little remarks she makes about Anne Rice and Stephanie Meyer are also quite entertaining. When fictional characters comment on real authors, there is also a nice layer of meta-narrative going on and, if you’ve read some of my own writings in the past, you know that is something I’m into. I also like to twist popular culture around at any chance I get so…

I’m not going to delve into the plot much this time around as I think it’s best to let you experience it but I did like how every scene was portrayed, and that includes the sex bits between Helen and Andrew. Unlike others, sex scenes are not really a priority of mine when it comes to these. Mental titillation is often enough but this tale harmonizes both the mental aspect and the explicit one in a way that one doesn’t overshadow the other. It’s because of such balance I found myself commenting on this one as well, today.

All in all, very good. I recommend this one just like I did with Brought to Book. Go check it out and have some good supernatural erotic fun.

Thank you for reading.
