How this story came to be

I don’t do a lot of pieces with magic, and I was in the mood for one. I tried a handful of concepts in my head, but this was the one that made the most sense. It’s true, life isn’t fair, and, sometimes, suffering for a powerful woman isn’t either, but you don’t really have much of a choice in the matter, do you?
