How this story came to be
I’ve been wanting to bring Horatia back to this challenge for a while now, but it seems I jumped the gun on this one. Let me explain: On August 6, 1926, Gertrude Ederle, age 19, of New York became the first woman to swim the English Channel, breaking the men’s record by nearly two hours.
