Spell… H-A-L-L-O-W-E-E-N 2026 – Day 30

Spell… H-A-L-L-O-W-E-E-N is back! Let’s enjoy another month of supernatural fun.

Let’s have some fun the night before Halloween. It’s time for some humorous mischief.

Mischief Night

Gideon woke at 3 a.m., standing in the middle of Linden Court, barefoot, and holding a roll of toilet paper.

He wasn’t alone. Every neighbor was out in pajamas and bathrobes, looping white streamers over hedges and mailboxes. Nobody spoke. The paper hissed through the dark.

“Evening, dear.” Mrs. Halloran from number nine stood on the curb with a clipboard, her cardigan buttoned wrong. “You’re late. The maple, please. The big one.”

“I don’t know how I got out here.”

“Nobody does. That’s the fun of Mischief Night.” She ticked something off. “We do it every year. You just don’t remember it afterward.”

His arm was already rising. He told it to stop. It threw the roll anyway, a clean white arc over the branches, and a small, pleased warmth spread through his chest, like being praised. He hated it. He threw another.

“There,” said Mrs. Halloran softly. “Doesn’t it feel better when you stop arguing with yourself?”

By dawn, Linden Court was draped end to end in white, and Gideon’s thoughts had gone quiet and tidy. Mrs. Halloran patted his cheek. “Home now. Pumpkins on the porch by six tonight. Smile at the visitors. They’ll be so hungry, and we do like to be welcoming.”

He woke at his kitchen table with paper in his hair. Outside, the neighbors were cheerfully stripping the trees and chatting about the weather.

Gideon brushed the white shreds from his shoulders, humming. He couldn’t think why he’d been afraid.
