Maze of Doors

Every door in the maze led to the same place.
“Fuck! Why can’t I leave?” Jack shouted.
“You can’t escape your mind, therefore you can’t escape me,” Diana replied.
“If you think for a moment I’ll surrender…”
“You already did,” the evil hypnotist grinned. The reflection of her eyes blinded him as the world dissolved.

Random impromptu. No specific source of inspiration behind it. Yesterday’s piece was lighthearted, this one is a bit on the unnerving side, I suppose. Do you like those games where you go through a corridor, open the door, and everything resets but not quite? Think of this as one but inside your mind. Is that creepy or what?

The Matrix Rebooted

Neo held the green pill Trinity gave him.
“No red or blue?” he asked.
“This one’s better,” she smirked.
“Will I be free if I take it?”
“Free to obey me.”
“Not sure I like that.”
“You always do.”
“How many times has this happened already?”
“Not enough.”
He swallowed it again, all thoughts rebooted.

Ah, The Matrix. I remember when it came out, the phenomenon it was. I was hesitant to go watch it at the theater but curiosity took the best of me. I ended up really enjoying the world it created and I liked the two sequels as well even if they were definitely not as good as the original. It’s still a “fun” universe and, assuming all goes well, I’ll watch the fourth installment later this year, too.

Anyway, I played with it before in a story called The Mistrex which you can download here, but today felt like doing something with it once more. Trinity takes control once more because this is a femdom mind control challenge after all but green is my favorite color, so… I chose the word “rebooted” for obvious reasons and not-so-obvious ones. You know I love boots so guess what Neo will be doing once his mind is clean again?

Hypnotic Writing

New Story

Alex was traumatized by the number of mistakes in his latest story.
“Was I drunk?” he mumbled.
“Entranced,” Judith whispered. “Like you’re supposed to be.”
“But this…”
“… can be fixed later. The important thing is you always got this sentence right,” she pointed at the laptop screen.
He read, “I must obey,” and dropped deeper.

When you’re writing something new, especially if you’re in the zone, it’s customary to make a lot of mistakes. In my case, that’s even more obvious by the fact English is my second language. I often notice the errors while typing but, as tempting as it is to fix them right away, the best approach is to keep going, let all ideas flow, and do the editing later when you’re more relaxed. I don’t always do that but I’ve certainly grown better at it the more I put my creativity to good use.

This piece was partially inspired by it but it was more improvised than anything else. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have some editing to do.

A Good Team

The concert was beyond Dan’s expectations, a grandiose spectacle of images and sound.
“You outdid yourself this time,” he whispered.
“No, you did!” Ashley responded. “Without your imagination, this wouldn’t have been possible. Thank you for trusting me.”
“We make a good team.”
“Yes, we do.”
Dan smiled and drifted deeper into her hypnotic fantasy.

This piece was written just now while listening to the latest Vangelis album – Juno to Jupiter. It was supposed to have been released last year but it was delayed until today. Seeing he remains my favorite composer, I had it pre-ordered and it was waiting for me in my mailbox when I arrived home from work a few hours ago. I’m currently finishing listening to it in its entirety. It’s a strange album, but it has a lot of interesting soundscapes that evoke some of his earlier albums as well as the mysteries of space. I don’t think it will become my favorite but I do like the electronic textures. It’s actually great background music for being creative.

Seeing as I was listening to music, I wrote a piece about music, obviously. If you’re curious about some of the strange sounds you may encounter in this album, check out one of the pieces I find most intriguing below.
