Not a Pet
Jack wasn’t a pet. He wasn’t. It didn’t matter what Paula whispered in his ears or how beautiful her blue eyes were. He knew the truth.
That tuesday evening, he left the house behind her, crawling on all fours. The collar around his neck was tight.
He wasn’t a pet, and would never be one.
How this story came to be
This piece came to me as I was walking my dog today. I had just the house when I saw a couple with a chihuahua. She was holding the leash. At some point, the man kneeled to tie his shoes and he positioned himself in such a way that, for a moment, it was almost as if he was the one being leashed around and not the dog. It was this momentary trick of the light that inspired this scenario.
