Final Test
Gabrielle had passed all tests with flying colors up to that point. There was only one left.
“You need to enslave your best friend before midnight,” her mother declared.
“Why?”
“To show your commitment. Our Order doesn’t accept weaklings. Will you do it?”
Gabrielle was already walking toward the front door before she stopped talking.
How this story came to be
I’ve always loved ambiguous endings, things that you’re not really sure how they play out. I oten finish my stories that way. Some people love it, others hate it. I wanted to do something like that today, and I think I did. Why did Gabrielle walk toward the door? Was if because she was going to enslave her friend as demanded of her or because that was a hard limit, and she refused her mother? Both interpretations are valid. Choose which one resonates with you the most.
