5 – The Grand Opening
A familiar voice called out, “Meredith!” She turned to see Jack Reynolds, a prominent researcher from UCLA’s psychology department, waving. Beside him stood Elena Rodriguez, a conference committee member she’d collaborated with during the planning stages. They converged near the registration desk, exchanging quick professional embraces and rapid-fire updates.
“It’s so good to see you,” Jack said, adjusting his glasses. “And this place looks great. Nice work.”
“Thank you,” Meredith replied.
Elena leaned in, holding a shiny flier in her right hand.
“What he said,” she purred. “And talk about an all-star lineup! How did you pull this off?”
“Months and months of hard work,” Meredith shook her head. “Have you met Mistress Susan yet?” she pointed at the powerful hypnodomme.
Jack and Elena turned, their professional demeanors disrupted by Mistress Susan’s striking appearance. Her leather attire gleamed under the conference hall’s soft lighting, and her piercing gaze swept over them with calculated precision.
Jack cleared his throat. “I never had the pleasure, but your reputation precedes you, Mistress Susan. Your work on psychological conditioning and the long-lasting impact of post-hypnotic suggestions is an absolute gem. I’m definitely not missing your seminar today.”
“I’m glad,” Mistress Susan replied, eyeing the other woman. “Your face looks familiar, Elena. Have we talked before, by any chance?”
“No, but you probably met my twin. She works as a dominatrix in your city. She goes by the name of Goddess Sinammon there.”
“Sin? Ah, of course!” Mistress Susan chuckled. “No wonder you look familiar. You’re almost the spitting image of one another? Who’s the oldest?”
“I am,” Elena said. “I was born two minutes before her.”
“I see. I hope you’re proud of your sister. She’s an amazing woman and an even greater dominant.”
“Oh, believe me, I am.”
“Is she here with us today? I’d love to say hello.”
“No. She’s still on vacation in Spain, but she promised to drop by on the last day of the event. If you’re still around then, I’m sure she’d love to talk to you, too.”
“I’ll be looking forward to it then.”
Checking her watch, Meredith realized the opening keynote was minutes away. She excused herself and navigated through the crowd, moving toward the auditorium’s massive double doors.
The large space was a cathedral of possibility. Tiered seating rose in gentle slopes, filled with hundreds of expectant faces. Soft blue-white lighting created an almost ethereal ambiance, highlighting the stage’s minimalist design – a single podium, elegant and understated, waiting to unleash whatever revelations KNOT would introduce to the world.
Dominic was already positioned stage left, reviewing his notes with laser-like concentration. This was their moment. Everything they’d planned was about to unfold.
“Are you ready for this?” he asked.
“I’ve been ready all my life,” Meredith adjusted her hair. “How do I look?”
“Perfect as always.” He handed her a couple of handwritten notes with BDSM-related jokes just in case she wanted to switch things up. She read the first one, laughed, and then added, “There’s no way I’m saying any of that out loud.”
“Never say never, Meredith.”
The auditorium’s ambient lighting dimmed, signaling the start of the proceedings. A soft murmur of anticipation rippled through the crowd as attendees shifted and settled into their seats, with even more people waiting outside. Meredith took a deep breath, feeling the weight of months of preparation converging in this singular moment.
Dominic gave her a subtle nod from the wings, and she stepped forward, her heels clicking a precise rhythm against stage floor. The microphone caught her first breath – clear, confident, commanding.
“Ladies and gentlemen, fellow kinksters, and lovers of BDSM, welcome to KNOT!” she began, her passionate conviction echoing in every syllable. “For those who don’t know me, I’m Meredith Carpenter, and organizing this event has been my life’s dream. For years, our community has thrived in shadows, misunderstood, marginalized. The rise of social media has opened the eyes of the vanilla world to our fantastic reality, but make no mistake: the narrative is still against us. Changing perceptions is not an easy task, but we’ll get there, one person at a time.”
She outlined KNOT’s mission – to destigmatize alternative sexual practices, to promote consent and psychological safety, to bridge academic research with lived experience. Her speech wove together personal anecdotes, statistical data, and profound philosophical observations about human connection and power dynamics.
Dominic watched from the wings, a subtle smile playing across his lips. He knew every pause and every rhetorical flourish, though he kept waiting for her to use one of his cue cards just for fun.
“We are not aberrations. We are not freaks!” Meredith declared, her tone rising. “We are explorers of the human complexity, who love life more than anything. Our voice will never be silenced. In this space, it will grow stronger than ever.”
The audience – a mix of academics, practitioners, and curious attendees – sat transfixed. Heads nodded. Some wiped away unexpected tears.
As applause began to build, Meredith changed her tone, transforming from passionate advocate to gracious host. “And now,” she announced, her voice carrying a subtle theatrical flair, “I’d like to introduce some of the extraordinary individuals who will be sharing their expertise over the next three days.”
Names from every corner of the world began to flow from her lips. Masters, Mistresses, college professors, a professional sub just like she had been, psychologists, and more… and of course…
“Our renowned hypnodomme, Mistress Susan, whose experiences in psychological conditional via hypnosis has been expanding the boundaries of consensual mental manipulation.”
Mistress Susan rose to her feet. Her gaze swept the audience – not challenging, but calculating. One could sense dozens of attendees intimidated and fascinated.
“Thank you, Meredith,” she said. “I’m looking forward to exploring some… interesting territories with everyone here.”
The crowd’s anticipation was palpable, electric with unspoken curiosity about what revelations might emerge during her upcoming session.
As Mistress Susan’s words hung in the air, a sudden swell of orchestral music erupted from hidden speakers. Sweeping strings and dramatic brass intertwined, creating a cinematic soundscape that caught everyone’s attention. Dozens of latex balloons shaped like floggers, restraints, and anatomical forms descended from the ceiling, their glossy surfaces catching the stage lights in a cascade of provocative shapes.
The orchestral music built to a crescendo, the balloons spinning and twirling, creating a mesmerizing dance above the seated crowd. Several attendees reached up, either to pluck the inflatables or keep them as souvenirs of the event’s audacious opening.
Mistress Susan smiled, she too excited to see how the first day of KNOT would play out.
To decide what happens next, head over to my Patreon (you can join for free), and vote on the poll there until next Sunday.
If you’re new to these CYOA stories, here are the basic rules:
1) You can only choose one option;
2) If there’s a tie at the end of the poll, and the competing options can be combined somehow, I’ll do that. If not, I get the deciding vote to keep the tale going.
3) The process continues every Wednesday until the story runs its natural course.
Have fun.
