Alphabet of Submission
Alphabet of Submission (55 Words Stories Challenge 2018 – Day 4)
Every day, Trish asked John to organize her books, alphabetically.
At first, he protested but obeyed, anyway. Compulsion in place, he rapidly found himself doing other things for her, promptly, and without questioning. Kissing her feet while she sang was his favorite.
“A, B. C. D, E, F, G
Now your mind belongs to me…”
How this story came to be
I’ve been asked recently if I’m somewhat OCD and if that could explain why I’ve been writing these for more than two years in a row now. The answer is: no, I’m not. It’s true I’ve grown used to writing them on a daily basis but the world wouldn’t end if I didn’t do such a thing. I’m not compelled by anything other than my creative desires. My mind is calm and collected, even if a bit out there. Thinking outside the box is fun. I want to keep on doing that.
That said, I do like some rules, some rituals, and routines. Then again, don’t we all? If you wish to train someone to do your bidding, one of the easiest ways to do that is starting with simple things. The performance of repetitive tasks ingrains obedience and once that sets in, everything else feels natural. That’s classic conditioning in a nutshell. I was thinking about all of these things when I devised this one. I hope you enjoy it.
Seeing I want this year’s challenge to be more interactive than ever, I would love to hear your suggestions for future pieces, themes to explore, etc. Anything goes as long as the basic principles of the challenge are respected. It can be silly, it can be dark, it can be anything. If you want to play along, leave a comment below with your idea. I’ll make note of each and every one, try to incorporate as many as possible in the future, and give you full credit for the inspiration. Until tomorrow.
If you like Spell… B-O-U-N-D and my efforts and wish to see them both grow, please consider:
