Nothing Happened (55 Words Stories Challenge 2018 – Day 3)
I didn’t do a thing to you.
I didn’t hypnotize you, brainwash you, tear your world asunder.
I didn’t turn thoughts into feelings, feelings into cravings, cravings into pieces of your soul.
I didn’t give you these words of worship to write every day.
I didn’t make you mine.
And yet, that’s what you are.
How this story came to be
This was inspired by the classic approach to hypnosis of ‘denying’ that something took place in order to bypass the subject’s conscious mind. It’s a great tool to use especially when it comes to extremely analytical persons, people with a tendency to rationalize and try to make sense of everything that’s happening to them.
I wrote it in POV style because it felt like the most appropriate way to convey the general idea I was going for. If it has a bit of a lyrical feel to it (and I believe it does), it’s because of my recent rereadings of past poetic efforts and I guess my mind is still on that particular wavelength so to speak. It’s supposed to be a woman talking to a man obviously, but it’s open-ended enough to be something else, depending on your tastes. And that pretty much wraps up my observations.
Seeing I want this year’s challenge to be more interactive than ever, I would love to hear your suggestions for future pieces, themes to explore, etc. Anything goes as long as the basic principles of the challenge are respected. It can be silly, it can be dark, it can be anything. If you want to play along, leave a comment below with your idea. I’ll make note of each and every one, try to incorporate as many as possible in the future, and give you full credit for the inspiration. Until tomorrow.
If you like Spell… B-O-U-N-D and my efforts and wish to see them both grow, please consider:
